In Palm City, the owners took down what stood on the lot and started over with a single instruction: build a legacy home. At 7,700 square feet, 10,570 under roof, there was room to give every part of their life its own space, a game room, a media room, a gym, an office, a quiet sitting room, and a tool shop unlike any other we have built. We carried the project from pre-construction design through the build and the finish out. Upstairs, second-floor balconies look out over the waterways. Downstairs, Euro stacking doors slide away and open the living space to the outside. There is even a dedicated dog wash, because every member of the family was accounted for.
A sweeping curved stair with hand-worked iron balusters rises through the two-story foyer beneath a sculptural lantern. It is the first thing you see when the front door opens, and it sets the tone for a house built to be lived in by more than one generation.
A marble-topped island with seating anchors the kitchen, open to the entry on one side and to the gathering spaces on the other. Glass-front cabinetry, a professional range, and paneled refrigeration were settled early, as part of the Big Five.
In the living room, a linear fireplace set in cast stone faces a run of Euro stacking doors. They slide back and stack aside, so the room opens to the light and the air instead of looking at it through glass.
