Local Expertise

Our shop is here. So is our reputation.

We founded Masterpiece in Stuart in 1988, and this is still where our shop, our crews, and our name live. Over more than three decades we have built ground-up custom homes and taken on whole-home renovations from downtown's historic grid out to the waterfront lots on Hutchinson Island.

Building here means working fluently with Martin County's permitting process, the four-story height limit that keeps our skyline low, and the coastal wind-load and flood-elevation requirements that come with living this close to the water. We handle that groundwork so your project moves without surprises.

A waterfront pocket of Stuart where we completed The Lanai House Renovation, a whole-home transformation finished in 2024. Snug Harbor homes tend to date from an era with good bones and dated layouts, which makes them strong candidates for the kind of renovation that changes how a house lives without moving it.

What building here really involves.

01

Coastal wind & flood construction

Waterfront and island lots carry high wind-load ratings and flood-elevation requirements. We engineer and detail for them from the first drawing, not as an afterthought at permitting.

02

Martin County permitting

We know the county review process, the four-story rule, and the inspectors. That familiarity keeps approvals predictable and your timeline honest.

03

Downtown & historic character

Stuart's older neighborhoods reward homes that fit their setting. We design and renovate to feel like they have always belonged on the street.

Building in Stuart: common questions

Do you build on Hutchinson Island and other coastal Stuart lots?

Yes. We regularly build and renovate on the barrier island and along the water. Those lots require coastal construction control line review, elevated foundations, and high wind-load engineering, all of which we handle in stride.

How long does a custom home in Stuart take?

Most ground-up custom homes run roughly 14 to 20 months from the first design conversation to move-in, depending on size, site conditions, and how selections come together. We give you a realistic schedule up front and keep it current.

Do you handle Martin County permitting for me?

We manage the full permitting process with Martin County and the City of Stuart, including surveys, engineering, and inspections, so you are not chasing paperwork.

Which Stuart neighbourhoods do you build and renovate in?

Across Stuart and the surrounding area, including Snug Harbor, North River Shores, Rocky Point, Sunset Estates, Sailfish Point, downtown Stuart and Stuart West. Three of our completed projects are in Stuart: a private waterfront residence at the Stuart Yacht & Country Club, The Lanai House Renovation in Snug Harbor, and The Modern Farmhouse in Cobblestone.

Do you take on luxury and waterfront homes in Stuart?

Yes. Waterfront work carries its own requirements, from wind and flood engineering to how the outdoor living space meets the water, and much of our Stuart portfolio sits on or near it.

Is it better to renovate or rebuild a Stuart home?

It depends on the bones and the layout. Many of Stuart's best neighbourhoods were built thirty to thirty-five years ago and renovate beautifully, but where the floor plan fights the way you live, a rebuild can be the better value. We look at both paths during pre-construction rather than assuming one.

Do you handle Stuart permitting and HOA approvals?

We do. After building in Stuart and across Martin County since 1988, we know the permitting process, the local codes and the community requirements, which is usually where schedules slip for people who do not.
